Corn Roast this Weekend

Hello Members and Friends of the Winnebago County Democratic Party!

A reminder to come to the Annual Winnebago County Corn Roast this weekend:
The Corn Roast will be August 28th, from 1-4PM. Once again, it will be held at Winnebago County Park, Southeast of the corner of Hwy 76 & Cth Y. Follow the signs to the shelter!

$5 will get you a couple of hot dogs and all the Allen corn on the cob you can eat.
Local Elected Officials as well as statewide candidates will be attending and speaking.

Please pass this invitation on to anyone you know may be interested.

We have invited all of the Democratic Candidates running for office this fall, and will feature local elected officials and great fellowship with Democrats across the area.

The office is open at 480 N Main St, Oshkosh & Senator Russ Feingold will continue his tradition of kicking off the campaign season at the Grand Opening of the Winnebago County Democratic Party Campaign Office this Saturday, August 7th between 12:30 and 2:00 PM.

Come out to celebrate and start the good work of campaigns! We will provide refreshments, bring a snack to pass if you would like, but yourself no matter what!

We will have campaign info and supplies available, stickers and signs for a small donation (they were purchased by the party). Also, please make sure your membership is up to date!

An update from the Feingold Campaign:

Russ will be at the official office opening of the Winnebago County Democratic Party office on Saturday, August 7th. The event will run from 12:30 - 2:00pm at the new office downtown. Thank you Jef Hall and Winnebago Dems for making this happen - Russ truly appreciates it and we are excited to be a part of it!

In addition to the office opening we are going out to canvass Oshkosh immediately after the event.

Winnebago County Democratic Party Endorses David Keck for Winnebago County Circuit Court Judge Branch 5

Winnebago County Democratic Party Endorses David Keck for Winnebago County Circuit Court Judge Branch 5

At the January 13th, 2010 party membership meeting, the WCDP endorsed Court Commissioner David Keck for Winnebago County Circuit Court Judge in Branch 5.

Mr. Keck spoke to the members assembled about his history as a public defender, Court Commissioner and one of the founders of the Winnebago County Free Legal Assistance Clinic that offers legal advice to those who are unable to afford legal services.

Mr. Keck also helped create a program with the Christine Ann Center to provide legal representation to domestic abuse victims who need to appear in court for restraining orders or stalking cases.

Mr. Keck focused on how these victims need the confidence and help from representation as they face their victims for often the first time after leaving.

Mr. Keck has a record as a Court Commissioner of judging cases based on the fact before him, not the people. This record coupled with the compassion he outlined in a recent Oshkosh Northwestern profile:

Keck said the programs ensure professional representation in court for that those without the financial means to hire an attorney. Going into a court proceeding without a lawyer and not understanding the legal proceedings is not fair to all parties involved, he said.

"Because of the way I do hearings and make decisions, I see a need for all people to get a chance to be represented," said Keck, who was a staff attorney with the State Public Defender's Office for 13 years before becoming court commissioner. "It's like being a referee of a game where one team doesn't know what the rules are. It's hard to be fair when one side doesn't know the rules to play by."

Kagen Health Care Listening Session, Hmong Summer Festival, Labor Day

Health Care Reform Rally, Corn Roast, Stand by the Grand, Labor Day - Lots of Opportunities to Get Involved!

There are several events over the next 2 weeks that you might like to get involved with:

1. Stand by the Grand!

The Oshkosh Common Council will be voting on repairs to the Grand Opera House at their meeting today Tuesday, August 25th. We need to show our support! Please gather with me in the City Hall parking lot before the meeting and show our Council members how much the people of Oshkosh value their Grand! Let's line the sidewalk with people who know the Grand must continue in our community!

The meeting starts at 5:15, please be there by 4:15!

2. Health Care rally in Green Bay

This Wednesday, August 26th, at 6:00 pm. there will be a major rally in Green Bay to support health care reform!! Send Rep. Steve Kagen back to Washington to fight for health care reform that will provide quality, affordable health care for all Americans.

The rally will be held at the University of Wisconsin Green Bay Phoenix Room. Join us to show America that people from Wisconsin are fair minded, caring people who want EVERYONE to have affordable health care!

This historic event will take place in front of 75,000 in Denver, and in front of friends and fellow activists projected on the big screen at the Winnebago County Democratic Party HQ at 480 N Main St, Oshkosh.

Please bring a dish to pass if you can. Refreshments will be supplied by the WCDP. We will start watching the convention after 6:00 PM.

Oshkosh – Before their Nov 14th, 2008 meeting, the Winnebago County Democratic Party will welcome State Senator Kathleen Vinehout, who will discuss the details and benefits of the Healthy Wisconsin plan to provide affordable, quality healthcare to all Wisconsin residents.

“Wisconsin will lead the nation in providing real health care reform. Healthy Wisconsin is an innovative solution that expands coverage while reducing costs,” State Senator Kathleen Vinehout (D-Alma) has said about the plan. “Every man, woman and child who now lives in Wisconsin will have access to affordable health care.”

“I am happy to bring Sen. Vinehout to Winnebago County,” said WCDP Chair Jef Hall. “I am excited to start the discussion about healthcare reform locally.”

“It is the Democratic Party that is leading the healthcare discussion with real ideas. Sen. Vinehout is a great example of Democratic innovation for the benefit of all Wisconsin.”

Healthy Wisconsin is a plan that will guarantee access to affordable, high-quality coverage through a provider of your choice to every resident of Wisconsin, except those covered by public programs like Medicare, Medicaid, and Badgercare.

Healthy Wisconsin saves an estimated $1.76 billion a year by:

* cutting waste and streamlining administration
* lowering drug costs through bulk purchasing
* discouraging inappropriate use of the emergency room
* rewarding healthy lifestyles and preventive care
* closely coordinating care for the chronically ill,
* rewarding providers who deliver the most efficient and highest quality care

Senator Vinehout’s presentation will begin at 6:00PM, November 14th, 2007. The regular meeting of the WCDP will begin after the presentation.

The public is welcome to both the presentation and the monthly meeting.

"I Like Ike!" - Winnebago GOP Denies Bush and Supports Peace?

This week's parades saw the Winnebago Republicans hauling around a mock Ripon Schoolhouse decorated with "I Like Ike" paraphernalia.

(The Oshkosh parade did have a 50's theme...)

However, if they took a look at what Eisenhower stood for, I'm not so sure that today's Republican Party would truly 'Like Ike".

He sounds like he could join Edwards, Richardson, Obama and Clinton running for the Dems nomination:

Every gun that is made, every warship launched, every rocket fired, signifies in the final sense a theft from those who hunger and are not fed, those who are cold and are not clothed.

Here in America we are descended in blood and in spirit from revolutionists and rebels - men and women who dare to dissent from accepted doctrine. As their heirs, may we never confuse honest dissent with disloyal subversion.

How far you can go without destroying from within what you are trying to defend from without?

I hate war as only a soldier who has lived it can, only as one who has seen its brutality, its futility, its stupidity.

I think that people want peace so much that one of these days governments had better get out of the way and let them have it.

In most communities it is illegal to cry "fire" in a crowded assembly. Should it not be considered serious international misconduct to manufacture a general war scare in an effort to achieve local political aims?

In the councils of government, we must guard against the acquisition of unwarranted influence, whether sought or unsought, by the military-industrial complex.

May we never confuse honest dissent with disloyal subversion.

Peace and justice are two sides of the same coin.

There is no glory in battle worth the blood it costs.

This world of ours... must avoid becoming a community of dreadful fear and hate, and be, instead, a proud confederation of mutual trust and respect.

When people speak to you about a preventive war, you tell them to go and fight it. After my experience, I have come to hate war.

I believe that anyone speaking the words above would be deemed immediately anti-American by today's Republican Party.

I don't, however, blame our local Republicans for looking back to better days. I would not want to have to publicly support the actions of today's Republicans.

Update on Services for the Weber's

SHOWING AND SERVICES FOR FORREST AND DALE WEBER

The first showing of Forrest and Dale Weber will be this Thursday January 11, 2007 from 3-7 PM at St. Timothy's Church in Menasha located across the street from Menasha High School.

Then on Friday January 12, 2007 a showing for the public will be held from 2-4 PM with funeral services at 4 PM.

Instead of flowers a memorial has been established with funds to be administrated at a later date.

If anyone would like to pay tribute to Woody Weber, stop by his residence in Menasha to display a Weber yard sign in your yard.

Dale K. Weber:

Dale K. Weber, Menasha, age 62, died tragically in a car accident with her husband Woody on Sunday, December 31, 2006 in Missouri. Dale was born March 15, 1944, daughter of the late Clarence and Alice (Dutcher) Zuchel. Dale met Forrest Weber at Northeastern Illinois University, Chicago Teachers College. They were married March 21, 1964. She was active in her church and community. At St. Timothy Lutheran Church she served on the Altar Guild, Counting Committee and other activities throughout St. Timothy Church. Active in politics, she was a long time poll worker and poll site coordinator. Former member of the Menasha Police and Fire Commission and current member of the joint Fire Commissions with the merger with Neenah. She served as Chair of the Winnebago County Democratic Party. She was also behind the scenes in many capacities. She enjoyed crafts, traveling, bowling, and square dancing. Her greatest joy was spending time with her grandchildren. Survivors include two children, Jacquelynn (Clark) Miller, Oconto Falls, Rev. Robert (Nancy) Norris-Weber. Minneapolis; four grandchildren, SPC Benjamin Miller, Nicole Miller, Ethan and Eli Norris-Weber; a step-granddaughter Stephanie DeWilde; sister, Barbara (Jim Pekny) Zuchel, IL; and numerous other family and friends. She was preceded in death by her father Clarence Zuchel, step-father, Harve Nathanson and a half sister, Laura Nathanson. A Celebration of Dale and Woody's lives will be held at 4:00 p.m. on Friday, January 12, 2007, at St. Timothy Lutheran Church, 473 7th Street, Menasha, with Rev. David Skarsten officiating. Relatives and friends may call AT THE CHURCH on Thursday, from 3 to 7 p.m. and again on Friday from 2:00 p.m. until the time of services. Forrest E. A. Weber Jr.:

Forrest "Woody" Weber, Menasha, age 65, died tragically with his wife Dale in a car accident on Sunday, December 31, 2006 in Missouri. He was born November 13, 1941 in Chicago, son of Forrest E.A.Weber Sr and Ladell Mae (Mueller) Weilbacher. Woody met Dale Zuchel at Northeastern Illinois University, Chicago Teachers College. They were married March 21, 1964. A graduate of University of Loyola, Woody began teaching in 1963 in Illinois. He served as an elementary school teacher and guidance counselor for 36 years, spending his last 25 years in the Appleton School District. He continued to be a substitute teacher throughout his retirement. He was a proponent of school reading programs. He was active in his church and community. At St. Timothy Lutheran Church he served as President of the Church Council, Usher, and Lector. Active in politics, he served on the Menasha School Board, City Council, Chair of the Winnebago County Democratic Party and as a Winnebago County Supervisor. Woody was a diehard Chicago Cub and Bear fan in Brewer/Packer Country. Survivors include two children, Jacquelynn (Clark) Miller, Oconto Falls, Rev. Robert (Nancy) Norris-Weber. Minneapolis; four grandchildren, Spc. Benjamin Miller, Nicole Miller, Ethan and Eli Norris-Weber; step-daughter, Stephanie DeWilde, his mother, Ladell Weilbacher, IL; a brother, Wayne (Denise) Weber, IL; two half brothers, Ward (Sandra) Weber, Washington, Robert Weilbacher Jr., IL; two half sisters, Darlene Weber, New Mexico, Elizabeth (Frank) Hemingway, Washington; and numerous other relatives and dear friends. Longtime Democratic Activists Killed

I am sad to report that longtime Democratic activists Forrest "Woody" and Dale Weber were killed in an automobile accident in Missouri.

Woody served as Winnebago County Chair, 6th CD Chair, Administrative Committee Rep and as a member of the Menasha City Council. He presently was serving on the Winnebago County Board.

Dale organized poll workers, served on the Board of Canvass and was a long-time activist.

They will both be greatly missed.

Hello Members and Friends of the Winnebago County Democratic Party!

Below you will find an overview of events in Madison around the inauguration on Wednesday, January 3rd.

First and foremost is:

Rep Elect Gordon Hintz’s Inaugural Ceremony!
When: 2:00 PM
Where: the Capitol, Madison
Each member has been given a limited number of tickets (5). After 1:50 pm, any “open seats” in guest seating areas will be made available to the general public on a first come, first served basis. The ceremony will be televised at: http://www.legis.state.wi.us/insession/assembly/indexvideo.htm

From Gordon’s announcement:

My office is located in Room 420 North of the State Capitol and will be open throughout the day. You are encouraged to stop by and store your coat and/or other belongings when you are in the Capitol. A small reception will take place during and immediately after the ceremony.

Tours of the State Capitol will be available on January 3, starting at 9am, 10am, 11am, and during the afternoon. Tours begin at the Information Desk, which is located on the ground floor, and last approximately 45 minutes.

After Gordon’s ceremony, we will host a reception:
