An Idea on Voter ID

This came to me in the shower this morning (where all good thought seems to arrive):

Dems should sign on to Voter ID- if and only if the Repubs mandate this new ID standard to be used for background checks for gun purchases and stores and shows.

If this is truly about making sure felons do not vote, then it is perfect for keeping guns out of criminal hands as well.

When they uproar that this will limit gun rights, you will see that truth - they are not in this to protect the vote - they are in this fight to limit the votes of elderly, transient poor and college students.

Joe Wineke likes to tell the story about the meeting of 300 students he attended. He asked them to take out their driver's licenses and stand if the license showed their current address.

2 people stood up.

Voter ID is a partisan sham - we should fight back with a sham just as blatant to point out the hypocrisy inherent in their stand.

There's the challenge for a Dem member of the assembly to amend the Voter ID law when it next comes to the floor.

Or tack that on to the next concealed carry bill they try to shove through.

This is an absolutely imbecilic statement. The Voter ID bill and background checks for felons are totally unrelated pieces of Legislation. Voting is a privilege in America, Gun Ownership is a Right (see 2nd Amendment).

Secondly Felons don’t often go to Gun Stores and or Gun Shows to purchase weapons; they get them on the streets or in other illegal ways (i.e. theft). You might as well pass a background check for burglars, making it mandatory that they not be felons before committing burglaries. Thinking that by passing a background check law on burglars that burglaries will be reduced. The logic just doesn’t add up, but I have never talked to a liberal who let facts or the truth get in the way of what they believe.

If this is true then why is there a provision in the bill to give a FREE ID to people who don’ t drive and or can’t afford an ID. The Voter ID Bill is meant to stop politicians from campaigning in the graveyards (i.e. see dead people voting). Check out Milwaukee County, (Run by Democrats) the Milwaukee Journal-Sentential found over 7000 more votes cast in Milwaukee than people who voted.

Doesn’t the law require citizens to correct their drivers license address within 6 months of moving? Also the Drivers license for identification and mail (such as utility bill, etc) could be used to establish the voter’s current address.

Jeff, your arguments against the Voter ID bill are a sham and extremely flawed. I guess in true Liberal fashion you are not going to let the TRUTH and the FACTS get in the way of your opinion.
