unrelated: It's interesting to see an example over on the Palmeri blog of someone responding "not to what has been said, but to who is saying it". The first time I heard that phenomenon described clearly I thought it was very profound and an apt description. I have gone on to see it implemented in many situations.
Candidate Hintz, having aswered 'no'to the 6 questions, would have been WRONG. And yet, his having answered "yes" to all 6 questions is also wrong. I have been in that position many times, that I am wrong by virtue of my identity, rather than my words. I do not enjoy it, in fact I feel victimized by the attitude when it came my way in the past, and I know I have not seen the last of it.
That attitude is often associated with those in power, but everything always cuts both ways, "underdogs" can be just as exclusionary, rigid and condemning. Just as comfortable putting people in tight little boxes. As certain as say, George Bush, in pointing the finger of fate. Nice work if you can get it.
